The government has revealed that Indonesia will have Forbidden City tours like Beijing, China. The concept of Forbidden City tourism is planned to be built in Ubud, Bali.

This was conveyed directly by the Minister of PPN / Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa during a year-end press conference in Bali, which was broadcast virtually Monday (28/12/2020).

By carrying out the Forbidden City in Ubud, Bali, Suharso’s individualized structure is also part of the government’s efforts to recuperate tourism in Bali. So that tourism in Bali is expected to become tourism with the best quality for tourists or the quality of the travel industry.

Suharso said that Bappenas is currently preparing an end-all strategy for the Ubud-style Forbidden City development. In this case, he continued, Bappenas is working with traditional leaders and local governments.

In principle, Indonesia wants tourism in Ubud, Bali will prioritize cultural tourism, and will prioritize private or limited tourism.

“There will be a place that will be built like a prohibited city with all kinds of world shows. We are making a master plan,” Suharso explained.

“Hopefully, we can finish this (end-all strategy) in the first semester of 2021, so we can see what it looks like,” Suharso’s individualized structure continued.

To note, the Forbidden City was first in Beijing, China. Prohibited City is a complex of imperial palace and the residence of Chinese kasiar and their family members during the Ming and Qing Dynasty periods, between 1420 and 1924. This place was once the center of Chinese government for nearly 5 centuries. Therefore, the Forbidden City in China was registered as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1987.

Suharso said that the Forbidden City in Ubud will adapt the concept of the Forbidden City culture. Because, tourism in the future after Covid-19 is expected to change (moving) from a mass the travel industry where tourists come to a destination in droves, to a quality travel industry that is more private and limited.

According to him, Bali is ready to become a quality destination for the travel industry, so the government encourages the birth of the Forbidden City area.

“So, we are not only selling beaches and so on, but we will start selling more limited culture again, we will encourage it,” he said.

“Because if we can take care of that culture by itself, tourism can live. So I want to say that caring for culture with tourism, one of which is in Ubud, is a kind of statement and statement (quotation marks) Forbidden City,” Suharso’s individualized structure continued.
